Join me for this two-hour writing workshop. This is an invitation to pause to settle into your writing practice.
Our focus this month is the Heroine's Journey. Drawing on the work of Maureen Murdock and other scholars, we will explore a range of story frameworks that center the lived experiences of women. Whereas the typical Hero's Journey framework focuses on an external conquest, the Heroine's Journey frameworks outline inner journeys and holistic integration.
You can expect to explore how your own experiences intersect with these frameworks. Of course, although we are studying what is typically called t he Heroine's Journey, this story framework is for everyone, not just those who identify as women.
This workshop is for you if
- you know you want to write more often, but find it difficult to make the time to sit down and write,
- you want to connect with other people who enjoy creating and expressing themselves through writing, and
- you enjoy prompts to generate ideas for your writing practice.
You don’t need to be a “writer” or have a finished product in mind. This is about noticing, remembering, and telling the truth as you understand it right now. We’ll write into complexity, contradiction, grief, joy, resistance, and possibility.
This space is especially for those who sense that their stories matter, but haven’t always taken the time to deeply reflect on them. We’ll practice writing as a way to honor our lived experience, build clarity, and witness one another with care.
In the workshop, you can expect:
- Guided meditation to invite us to settle into the present moment
- Prompts for generating ideas about significant places and spaces in your life
- Poems, essays, and more to inspire your curiosity
- Connecting with other writers
- Time to actually write!
- Examples writing techniques that you can use to create more dimension in your writing
- Opportunities to share parts of your writing or discuss your writing process (optional, of course)
- To create something new!
